Melba Ruth (Leininger) Stallons, age 82, of Linton, Indiana passed peacefully on her way to glory at 6:05 am Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Special Care Unit of the Glenburn Home. The staff at the Glenburn Special Care Unit were loving and caring making her journey to heaven comfortable. The family thanks you for your many prayers and acts of loving kindness. Melba was born in St. Louis, MO on July 27, 1937, the fourth child and third daughter of Rev. Louis Lee Leininger & Ollie Frances McNeil Leininger. She was a dainty and exacting little girl who enjoyed music, studied violin and piano, sang in the school and church choirs, girls’ ensemble and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a follower of Jesus Christ attending the 15th Street Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Illinois, where her father served as pastor for 27 years.
Melba was a 1955 graduate of East St. Louis Sr. High School and a 1975 graduate of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio graduating Magna cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in English Education. She was elected and served on the Tipp City Exempted Village Board of Education in Tipp City, Ohio. She was an English teacher at Vandalia Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio and for many years she taught at Eastern Greene Junior High and High School. She was an Adjunct Professor of Indiana University teaching advanced placement English at Eastern Greene. Melba loved reading, English Literature and singing. She was a member of the Linton United Methodist Church where she served as a Trustee and sang in the choir. Melba also sang for many years with her husband Noble in the Lintones.
Melba is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Noble Stallons of Linton, IN; twin sons, Michael (Jan) Stallons of Charleston, IL and Mark (Judy) Stallons of Pahrump, NV; grandchildren, Jason (Vicky) Stallons, Benjamin (Samohya) Stallons, Leslie Stallons, Jonathan Stallons; great grandchildren, Tsoli Stallons, Kaius Stallons, Camila Stallons, Mia Stallons, Lucia Stallons, and Leonardo Noble Stallons; siblings, Martha Jane (Larry) Dimond, William Ray (Mary) Leininger and Daniel Neil (Donna) Leininger, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Frances Lea Tipton and Louis Lee Leininger, Jr.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Linton United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 11, 2020, with Pastors Ben Biggs, Mike Stallons, Ray Leininger, Dan Leininger, & Judy Stallons participating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, IN.
Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 10:00 am-12:30 pm prior to funeral service at the church.
