Obituary

Lewis Edward Moke (5/15/1948 – 2/22/2021), It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Lewis Edward Moke, of Spencer, Indiana. Lewis grew up in Gary, Indiana and was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, he then received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Indiana State University, and a Masters Degree from DePauw University. A pillar of the community and loved by all who knew him, Lewis began his teaching career at Spencer-Owen Community Schools in 1970 and taught for 45 years. He served selflessly on various civic boards and as a member of the SOCS School Board, he coached high school football and wrestling, middle school basketball, track and Drivers Education Class. He loved teaching, loved his students, loved and respected his colleagues, and he loved fighting for public education. He was president of S-OEA for 20 years before his retirement.

Lewis was a member and Past Master of Spencer Masonic Lodge #95, the Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Terre Haute Zorah Shrine, Terre Haute York Rite, Royal Order of Scotland , Indianapolis St. Bernard de Clairvaux and Indianapolis Rosicrucians.

Lewis was married to the love of his life, Cheryl (Fielding), for over 48 years. He was most proud of their daughter, Kristianne, and son-in-law Michael Myers, and adored his two beautiful granddaughters, Hallie Christine Richards and Annabella Marie Myers. He left behind his two fur babies, Peppers the cat, and his beloved Staley the mutt. He is also survived by his brother Robert Stephen Moke and wife Sharon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He attended all but 3 Chicago Bears games since 1973 with family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and respect for others. As his last unselfish gift, he donated his body to IU School of medicine.

There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the Owen County Community Foundation to fund EPIC which awards scholarships to an Owen Valley graduate planning to pursue a degree in education.

Letters, cards and donations may be mailed to the funeral home for the family at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, 105 North Montgomery Street, Spencer.
