Robert Thomas Thacker, 96, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House. He was born on August 27, 1923 in Spencer, Indiana to Edward Robert and Mary Viola (Hawkins) Thacker.
Robert served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Maxine Nicholson on October 1, 1941 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Robert was the longest living member of the Stinesville Church of the Nazarene and was also a member of the Moses Group. He was the patriarch of his family and loved spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 78 years, Maxine Thacker; daughter, Donna Richards (Robert); three grandchildren Gregg Britton (Vickie), Angie Holland (Kelly) and Shannon Bland (Max); four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family, Carl & Lela Skeath and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick Witham and six sisters Mamie Wall, Kate Thacker, Margaret Thacker, Mary Thacker, Elma Joyce "Dude" Thacker and Martha Thacker.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, Indiana with Pastor Ben Muncie officiating. Burial will follow in Chambersville cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday and 1:00 PM Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home.
