Welch & Cornett aftercare representative and grief supporter, Nichole Hawkins, recently completed 150 hours of training and earned her certification in Grief and Death Studies.
Hawkins has completed her last 30 hours of classroom education by the internationally recognized Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The course was taught by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., a noted author, educator, and grief counselor. The Center for Loss and Life Transition was founded in 1983 by Dr. Wolfelt. It is a private organization dedicated to furthering our understanding of grief.
The courses that she has completed are:
- Comprehensive Bereavement Skills
- Support Group Facilitating
- Helping Children and Adolescents Cope with Grief
- Understanding and Responding to Complicated Grief
- PTSD: Companioning the Traumatized Griever (Not only limited to PTSD associated with the Military)
Our hope is that Nichole can still continue to attend other specific trainings to help further her knowledge in grief and utilize this valuable information to help our community during the most difficult times in their lives. Dr. Wolfelt has recently incorporated a new class into his curriculum that is titled "Companioning Bereaved Parents." Nichole plans to attend this training and gain important insight into this particular area of grief and trauma.
In addition to her certification, Nichole is also a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
